The Snail Mail Collective

July 28, 2013
In this post I briefly mentioned a little something called the Snail Mail Collective. In June I received an email from fellow blogger, Cassie, which explained what the Snail Mail Collective is and how one can partake in it.
The Snail Mail Collective is a really fun way to get to know other bloggers and people from countries other than your own. I was so excited when I received the email and thought it was a really great idea as I am so curious about other people's lives - especially those who live in places other than South Africa and I am always eager to make new friends. I enrolled to take part in the Collective but unfortunately missed the email letting me know that I was part of the July collective. Luckily, the Collective happens every month and so you're able to sign up for August's intake!

What is it? The Snail Mail Collective is a monthly gift exchange where you can meet other people and bloggers from all around the world. Each month you are paired with a participant from a country other than your own. Once you are paired with a participant, you spend a couple of weeks getting to know each other through your blogs and emails (think pen-pal vibes) and after that you post your SMC buddy a small but meaningful gift and package according to the theme of that month. The rules state that this gift/package cannot be more than $5 in value as it needs to be affordable to everyone. In your package that you send to your buddy you need to include a postcard from your city/country/province or a hand written letter. Once you have received your package you're able to write a blog post about your experience and then link it up with the creators of the Collective to see how others found it and what they received from all around the world.

Any Rules? Yes. Each month has a theme, for example, July's theme was where you live. Try to keep your post card and gift relevant to the theme of the month. You can sign up to participate up until the 7th of every month. The pairings are announced over here and here around the 9th and 10th of each month. Once you are assigned to a partner, you have 72 hours to connect with them. If your partner does not connect with you within that time frame, email Chelsea or Melyssa and they will reassign you to someone else.

Where Can I Sign Up? If you're still unsure of what exactly the SMC is, you can click here to find out everything and you can sign up over here at the beginning of August for August's intake.
